황우여 대표최고위원은 2013. 4. 8(월) 18:30 서울 프라자호텔 지하2층 그랜드볼룸에서 아시아재단 우호협회가 주최한 ‘2013 아시아재단우호협회 연례 총회’에 참석하였다. 그 주요내용에 대해 황천모 수석부대변인은 다음과 같이 전했다.
ㅇ 황우여 대표최고위원의 인사말씀 주요내용은 다음과 같다.
아시아재단우호협회 연례 총회 개최를 진심으로 축하드리고 협회를 이끌고 계신 존경하는 이홍구 이사장님, 데이빗 아놀드 총재님, 그리고 여러 이사님들과 아시아재단 지역협회 여러분께 진심으로 감사드린다. 아시아재단은 반세기가 넘는 동안 대한민국의 든든한 후원자이자 친구였다. 아시아재단은 59년전인 1954년 전쟁으로 붕괴된 한국의 국가 시스템을 재정비하는데 큰 도움을 주었고, 공고한 한미 협력관계를 유지하는 큰 역할을 해왔다. 이러한 아시아 재단의 도움으로 지난 60여년 동안 한국은 세계가 놀랄 성장을 이뤄냈고, 아시아재단이 후원한 많은 개인들과 기관들은 한국의 발전을 선도해왔다. 이홍구 이사장님을 비롯한 우호협회 이사님들의 면면을 보더라도 이 사실을 여실이 알 수 있다. 이제는 우리가 아시아재단의 든든한 동반자로서 아시아의 개도국들과 도움이 필요한 여러 나라들에게 우리가 받은 값진 도움과 지원을 다시 돌려드려야 할 때 이다. 그런 취지에 발맞춰 설립된 이 아시아재단우호협회의 노력에 감사드리면서 새누리당과 저도 여러분과 함께 한국이 아시아를 비롯한 세계 속의 중심 국가로 자리매김하는데 함께 하겠다. 또 북한의 위협수위가 연일 높아지고 있는 이때 굳건한 한미관계와 아시아 우방국들과의 긴밀한 외교관계가 한반도 평화와 안정에 큰 힘이 될 것인 만큼 아시아재단우호협회 여러분의 지속적인 관심과 지원을 당부 드린다. 앞으로도 아시아재단이 한국 사회가 직면한 문제를 해결하고, 한반도의 위기를 극복해 새로운 도약을 이루는데 함께 해주시리라 굳게 믿는다. 한국과 아시아의 발전을 위해 노력하는 연례총회에 여러분들의 건강과 행복을 기원한다. 대단히 감사하다.
금일 이 자리에는 이홍구 아시아재단우호협회 이사장 및 前 국무총리, 윤병세 외교부 장관, 박진 前 국회의원, 이자스민 국회의원 등이 함께했다.
Friends of the Asia Foundation Annual Reception Speech
I would like to congratulate FOTAF for hosting the Annual Reception, and I would like to thank Chairman Lee Hong-koo, TAF President David Arnold, the Board of Directors, and the Regional Representatives for their dedicated leadership in the Asia Foundation.
The Asia Foundation has been 'Korea's firm friend and supporter' for over half a century. Fifty-nine years ago, in 1954, the Asia Foundation provided great assistance to Korea in reconstructing a country torn by war, and has since played a big role in maintaining strong Korea-U.S. relations.
With the help of the Asia Foundation, Korea has achieved astounding development in the past 60 years, and the numerous individuals and institutions supported by the Foundation have further led progress in Korea. This is reflected in the tremendous works of Chairman Lee Hong-koo and each member of the Board of Directors.
Today, as the Asia Foundation's firm partner, it is our turn to provide assistance and support to developing countries. I would like to thank the FOTAF for your efforts in this area, and the Saenuri Party and I will be at the forefront of Korea's playing a central in Asia and the world.
With the current increasing threats from North Korea, strong relations with the U.S. and close diplomatic ties with allied countries will help bring peace and security to the Korean Peninsula. As such, I hope for the enduring interest and support from the Asia Foundation and FOTAF.
I believe the Asia Foundation will continue to help Korea in solving social issues, and in overcoming crises on the Peninsula.
I pray for the health and happiness of all the participants at this Annual Reception, and I thank you for your tireless effort in the advancement of Korea and Asia.
